To avoid scams, when doing business with a Chinese company, the first crucial thing is to check if the business license is real. Here is what you can do:
If you can go to the local Industrial and Commercial Administration, the officials there will help you to verify any Chinese business license. This is the most reliable way. However, if you are not in China, you can also check it online.
How to check whether a Chinese business license is real or fake online
There are two ways to verify a Chinese business license online.
The first is to check it in the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
Here are the steps:
1. Go to the official website of the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System http://www.gsxt.gov.cn/index.html and search for the company’s record using its registered name in Chinese or unified social credit code.
2. You need to click the company’s name that you want to search for.
3. The basic business registration information will be shown on the next page. You can use Google Translator to help you read this page.
4. After receiving the information, you ought to cross-check the following items.
a. Enterprise name
You need to confirm whether the enterprise name and enterprise type on its business license are consistent with those in National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
b. Registration Number or Unified Social Credit Code
The registration number (or 注册号 in the Chinese language) is a 15-digit number. It is also possible that you find a company’s Unified Social Credit Code (统一社会信用代码) instead of its registration number on a business license. The Unified Social Credit Code is an 18-digit number.
c . Enterprise address
The address of an enterprise is the business site where the enterprise is registered. If you find out that the address is not consistent, you need to confirm with the company to figure out whether the company forgets to update it.
The second way to verify a Chinese business license is to scan the QR code on the license which can also be very efficient, but this method is only valid for the business licenses of the new versions.
After scanning, you could see a page with the company’s unified social credit code in the search box. You can click the button on the right to see its registration information. (As is shown in the picture). The basic business registration information will be shown on the next page. You can use Google Translator to translate this page.
You can cross-check the information on its business license with what you find in this system to see if it is a real or fake Chinese business license.
